Emotional Sobriety: Core Concepts of Emotional SobrietyDr. Berger and Herb K. are two of the foremost authorities on emotional sobriety and optimal recovery. In this program, which was recorded live in Newhall (Santa Clarita) in August of 2019, these two pioneers talk about Emotional Sobriety as the missing link in recovery, and to learn to cope with life on life’s terms.
During this day long workshop they will unpack origins of emotional sobriety, and center on a key concept. At some point in our life we generate this idea of what life is supposed to be, what it’s supposed to look like, how people are supposed to behave towards me, and how I behave towards others. Dr. Berger and Herb K. dig into the making of those expectation in our formative years. They ask attendees to imagine a future that looks different, and workshop how to achieve it. This profound change is called emotional sobriety.
Allen Berger, PhD, a popular public speaker, nationally recognized expert on the science of recovery, and practicing psychotherapist with close to 50 years experience. He is the author of 12 Essential Insights for Emotional Sobriety, 12 Stupid Things That Mess Up Recovery, 12 More Stupid Things That Mess Up Recovery, 12 Smart Things to Do When the Booze and Drugs Are Gone, 12 Hidden Rewards of Making Amends and Love Secrets Revealed: What Happy Couples Know About Having Great Sex, Deep Intimacy, and a Lasting Connection. His pamphlet, How to Get the Most Out of Group Therapy, helps clients in treatment, continuing care, or Twelve Step groups, understand what happens in group meetings and how these meetings help members acquire recovery skills.
Herb K. was given the gift of freedom from alcohol February 21, 1984. As a result of the application of the Twelve Steps as contained precisely in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, he experienced a profound spiritual awakening in 1988. Since then he has been very involved in carrying the message of recovery through presentations, facilitating workshops, and leading retreats. He has authored three books to help people access the instructions and confirm the actual process contained in the Big Book for experiencing a spiritual awakening: Practicing the Here and Now: Being Intentional with Step 11, Using Prayer & Meditation to Work All the Steps, Twelve Steps to Spiritual Awakening: Enlightenment for Everyone and Twelve-Step Guide to Using The Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book: Personal Transformation: The Promise of the Twelve-Step Process. His books are available on Amazon and other locations.
